With reference to “10 GOP Rivals Steer to the Right in 1st Encounter” (Oct. 12), we could only count nine candidates named in the article. Since Pete Wilson has withdrawn from the field of candidates, we assume the missing candidate is Alan Keyes. Keyes picked up 8% of the vote in the Iowa straw poll, and that was before any speeches were made! At the Perot convention in Texas about three months ago, Keyes received a standing ovation after completing his speech. Recently, at a GOP women’s dinner in Pomona, the speaker was asked if he would vote for Keyes. When his answer was, “Yes!” the audience broke into a resounding ovation.

In summary, we, as white Republican senior citizens, feel that Keyes represents our conservative ideals and would vote for him should he win the nomination.
