FULLERTON : Event Aims to Lure Latinos to Health Field

Share

In an effort to persuade Latinos to pursue medical careers, Spanish-speaking doctors, nurses, pharmacists and hospital technicians are inviting high school and college students and their families to a free conference today at Fullerton College.

The event is the first of its kind on campus and organizers said they plan to turn it into an annual conference. More than 20 colleges and universities that offer degrees in the health and medical fields will answer questions and present information in Spanish and English.

Presentations will include information about financial aid, vocational and technical careers, dentistry, nursing, psychology and how to get admitted into medical school.

“There’s so few Latinos in the health professions and what we’re trying to do with this conference is increase the number of Latinos,” said Enrique Zuniga, a Fullerton College counselor and event organizer.

Registration for the conference, which is being sponsored by the college and a consortium of physicians from Latin America, begins at 3:30 p.m. and the event will be from 5:30 to 9 p.m. The college is at 321 E. Chapman Ave.
