Share

Two men wearing ski masks and armed with assault weapons shot and killed a Westminster resident and wounded another man Thursday night as the shooting victims tried to start a stalled car in Compton, police said.

William Hull Jr., 33, of Westminster was gunned down about 8:15 p.m. Thursday while he and Lee Andrew Tiffith, 28, of Carson were working on Tiffith’s car in a well-lit area near 134th Street and Central Avenue, Compton Police Capt. Steven Roller said.

Tiffith, apparently a companion of Hull, received a minor gunshot wound to the ankle, Roller said. He was taken by private car to Martin Luther King-Drew Medical Center in Los Angeles where he was in stable condition Friday.

Two other people who were standing with the victims at the time of the shooting escaped without injury, he said. Roller said he did not know whether the people were friends of the victims.

Roller declined to discuss further details of the shooting, whether the victims were robbed, or any statements that Tiffith might have made to investigators.
