Share

Emily Bushell Weldon, who owned a shoe store in Ventura for more than two decades, has died at the age of 86.

Mrs. Weldon, who died Friday at her Camarillo home, moved to Ventura County in 1940 with her family to help out in her parents’ business, Bushell’s Shoes. She later owned and ran the business until her retirement in the 1960s.

Mrs. Weldon’s daughter said her mother thrived in the shoe business, creating a circle of friends.

“She enjoyed the customers. She met a lot of nice people,” Darlene Patrick said. “Some of them are still friends even now.”

Mrs. Weldon was born in Victoria, Canada, on Oct. 31, 1908, and moved to Taft, Calif., while in her teens, before moving to Camarillo.

Mrs. Weldon, who loved gardening, needlepoint and crocheting, was active in the Christian Woman’s Club of Ventura and the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church of Camarillo.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Darlene and Ray Patrick of Camarillo, three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A service will be held at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, 1101 Ponderosa Drive in Camarillo at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Arrangements are being handled by Pierce Brothers Griffin Mortuary of Camarillo.

The family asks that memorial donations be sent to the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church building fund, 1367 Del Norte Road, Camarillo, or the American Heart Assn., P.O. Box 239, Port Hueneme.
