COMPANY TOWN : Jim Morris Named Head of Lucas’ Special-Effects House

Jim Morris has been named president of Lucas Digital Ltd. in San Rafael, Calif., with responsibility for the company’s two divisions, Industrial Light & Magic and Skywalker Sound. Morris, previously president of ILM, began his career at the pioneering special-effects house in 1987 as visual effects producer for the films “The Abyss” and “Always.”

Lucas Digital is one of three companies owned by filmmaker George Lucas. The others are Lucasfilm Ltd. and LucasArts Entertainment Co., the video and interactive games company. Morris will continue to oversee ILM operations.

The company also said Gloria S. Borders has been named vice president and general manager of Skywalker Sound, Lucas’ sound effects entity. Borders, affiliated with Skywalker Sound since 1981, won an Oscar for sound-effects editing for “Terminator 2: Judgment Day.”

* ITEL, the international distributor owned by HBO/Time Warner and MAI Media, has promoted Joseph Kennedy to vice president of North American sales and programming.
