Oxnard resident Laurence Andrew McMasters, a resident of California for 73 years, died Thursday at the age of 95.

McMasters was a retired machinist who avidly enjoyed baseball, history and travel.

“He was just a hard-working person. He was a family man,” said his daughter, Virginia Roundtree of Oxnard. “His favorite thing was baseball. He just loved the Dodgers.”

Born Sept. 17, 1900, in Dade County, Mo., McMasters moved to Garfield, Wash., at the age of 6. He came to California in 1922 and to Ventura County in 1975.

In addition to Roundtree, McMasters is survived by his son, Lawrence McMasters of Sun Valley, and another daughter, Nancy McLaren of Oak View. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A service for McMasters is scheduled at 2 p.m. Monday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale. Arrangements are being handled by James A. Reardon Mortuary in Oxnard.
