Venus Williams used an overpowering serve and composure that belied her 15 years in beating fifth-seeded and 18th-ranked Amy Frazier, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, in the Bank of the West Classic in Oakland. In only her sixth pro match, Williams advanced past the second round of a tournament for the first time and will play second-seeded Magdalena Maleeva in the quarterfinals.
