SMALL FACES: Singer Scott Weiland’s drug-related arrest in May spurred reports that Stone Temple Pilots would break up, but the group is now ensconced in Santa Ynez working on a new album that could be released as soon as early ’96. . . . Meanwhile, Dave Gahan, recovered from his recent suicide attempt, is back in London where Depeche Mode is recording new songs for a possible album. . . .
With the Velvet Underground finally voted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, members John Cale and Moe Tucker are talking about doing a duo album. There had previously been discussions about a trio album that would have also involved co-founder Sterling Morrison, who died of cancer in August. The three did record Jim Carroll’s “People Who Died” for the soundtrack of the new independent film “Antarctica.”
