LOS ALAMITOS : Mother Sues Police Over Shooting of Son
A woman whose son was shot to death by police in a confrontation last November has sued the Los Alamitos Police Department.
The suit was filed in Orange County Superior Court by Choyce Brown-Tucker of Los Alamitos, the mother of Michael Brown, a 19-year-old who was killed when he reportedly tried to attack officers with a pair of scissors.
Police said the shooting occurred after Brown escaped from the Los Alamitos Medical Center, where he was to receive treatment for a possible drug overdose or withdrawal.
Tucker’s lawsuit alleges that police officers and doctors at the hospital were negligent in treating Brown.
He escaped from the hospital and entered a nearby home, where he armed himself with the scissors.
A spokeswoman at the Los Alamitos Police Department said the department would have no immediate comment.
But in previous interviews, a spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, which investigated the shooting, said officers acted in self-defense.
