They came to Ventura County to sing. But the 66-member choir from the Czech Republic managed a trip to Santa Barbara, a tour of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and a few days relaxing in the California sun.

“They continually told me it’s their dream to come to the U.S.,” said Dan Williford, president of Los Robles Master Chorale, which hosted the Czech singers. “They are warm and friendly, and terrific musicians.”

As part of a three-week tour of the nation, the CKD Praha Choir spent two days in Ventura County, including a concert Monday at the Ascension Lutheran Church in Thousand Oaks.

Williford said his chorale already is planning a trip to the Czech Republic in 1997 to tour the country and perform with the Czech singers.

“They are really strong singers,” Williford said. “We’ve got our work cut out for us if we’re going to sing with them in Prague.”

Williford said he most enjoyed hosting two Czechs in his home and watching their reactions to the United States--particularly the California weather.

The group has performed all over the United States during its tour and wraps up its stay by visiting Orange and Los Angeles counties later this week.
