South Bay : COLLEGE BOUND

Westchester High School seniors interested in applying to the University of California now have an edge over the competition.

Westchester has become the only school in the Los Angles School Unified District with a UC headquarters office and an admissions officer on campus.

John Mims, an admissions officer for UC Davis, helps students focus on college goals by concentrating on study sessions and time management techniques.

Esther Hugo, college counselor for Westchester’s 420 seniors, says although the program has only been in place since August, she sees the benefits already. “Right now, our seniors are working on applications and essays for admissions,” said Hugo, “and it’s nice to have another resource helping me in the review process.”
