Share

An 11-year-old girl and a 25-year-old woman, both of whom are infected with the AIDS virus, will be honored at a luncheon Nov. 18 by J.E. Abernathy Community Outreach, a nonprofit AIDS education organization based in South Los Angeles.

Haydeia Broadbent, 11, was born with the virus; Lynn Chamberlain, 25, became infected in 1991. Both have full-blown AIDS but are active in teaching young people about the disease.

“The luncheon is to honor these two young ladies,” said Chamberlain’s mother, Marilyn Chamberlain, executive director of the organization. “We don’t know how much longer they have.” she said.

Marilyn Chamberlain said the group’s goal is to teach people in the South Los Angeles area that AIDS is not just a disease that afflicts gay men.

Tickets to the event, to be held at the Doubletree Hotel near Los Angeles International Airport, are $50. Proceeds will go toward the outreach group. For information, (213) 567-5825.
