Egypt Woman Tries to Sell Baby for $30
Egyptian police have arrested a woman who tried to sell her 7-day-old baby girl in a market for $30 because she said she needed the money for her family, local newspapers reported Friday.
The official Al Ahram said Kamilia Ahmed Noor, 33, confessed to police that she had sold another baby girl for $32 two years ago.
Noor has four other children from her first husband, who died three years ago.
Al Ahram said she had the two baby girls with her late husband’s cousin, to whom she is married unofficially.
An unofficial marriage is legitimate under Islamic law but is not as binding as one that is contracted in the presence of an Islamic cleric.
