NHL ROUNDUP : They’re on the Road Again, but Oilers Make It Pay Off

The Edmonton Oilers have been struggling on the road this season, so they weren’t satisfied with only a tie at Tampa Bay.

The aggressive Oilers got a hard-working goal from Jason Arnott to take a 4-3 overtime victory Friday night, only their second road victory of the season.

Arnott’s fifth goal of the season halted a two-game losing streak for the Oilers. Tampa Bay has only one victory in its last six games.

Pittsburgh 9, San Jose 1--Ron Francis had three goals, Jaromir Jagr had two and Mario Lemieux had a goal and four assists to boost his NHL scoring lead at San Jose. Lemieux, who has 37 points and a league-leading 23 assists, has scored in each of his 11 games this season.

New York Rangers 4, New York Islanders 1--Pat Verbeek had a goal and two assists at Madison Square Garden and goaltender Glenn Healy remained undefeated.

Healy (5-0-1), the former Islander, was rarely challenged, facing 21 shots.

St. Louis 3, Winnipeg 2--Brian Noonan scored twice at St. Louis and Dale Hawerchuk had a goal and two assists. The victory ended a four-game losing streak for the Blues, who had been shut out in two of their last three games.

Toronto 6, Washington 1--Mike Gartner and Larry Murphy scored two goals each at Toronto to lead the Maple Leafs, who scored five times in the first period.
