Third Place Is Good Enough for McSpadden to Win Title
Troy Cline of Hawthorne went wire to wire in the 30-lap Sprint Car Racing Assn. feature race in front of 3,275 Saturday night at Ventura Raceway, but the real race took place behind Cline.
Ron Shuman of Tempe, Ariz., was second and Leland McSpadden, also of Tempe, was third, which earned him the 1995 SCRA championship.
Coming into the final race of 1995, McSpadden held a 10-point lead over defending series champion Shuman and needed to finish no more than three places behind Shuman to clinch the championship.
Mike Kirby of Lomita won the $2,500 Dash For Cash, a series of four four-lap races for four cars.
Defending International Motor Contest Assn. Sprint Champion Randy Moody took the 12-lap semimain event, making his first appearance in the more powerful SCRA cars.
Sprint Car driver Bobby Michnowicz of Dominguez Hills won the 20-lap Dwarf Car main event, and also won one of the 10-lap Sprint Car heats.
Kirby, Rip Williams and Troy Newsome also won heats.
