Winds Force Jet Down; 1 Injured in Evacuation

WINDSOR LOCKS, Conn. —
An American Airlines jetliner carrying 72 passengers encountered severe turbulence on its approach to an airport and made an emergency landing early Sunday.
One person was injured during an evacuation using inflatable slides, said Mary Culver, a spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration.
The wings and landing gear on the MD-80 were damaged during the landing in Connecticut at Bradley International Airport, its destination. The flight originated in Chicago.
