LOS ALAMITOS : Everything Golden for Templetonian

Share
SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

After finishing second to fastest qualifier Keeps in the Golden State Futurity trials two weeks ago, Templetonian won the $205,845 Golden State Futurity at Los Alamitos on Friday night.

Templetonian, a gelding by Raise A Secret, is owned by Alan Norton of Grantsville, Utah. Norton purchased Templetonian for $15,500 from his breeder, Edward Allred, at last year’s Pacific Coast Yearling Sale.

“I hocked everything I owned,” Norton joked.

Templetonian more than paid for himself when he took home the $81,268 winner’s check from the Grade I Golden State Futurity. Ridden by Roman Figueroa, Templetonian broke well and was fourth in the early stages.

Running from post position seven, Templetonian and Red Hot Rhythm, the Kindergarten Futurity winner, bumped slightly a few strides out of the gate. The incident didn’t seem to bother Templetonian, who strongly advanced to win by half a length over Abigail Kawananakoa’s Evening Snow. The winning time for the 400 yards was 19.86 seconds.

Trained by Blane Schvaneveldt at Los Alamitos, Templetonian started his career in Wyoming, where he was trained by Stoney Burt. There, the gelding qualified for the Dash For Destiny Futurity but finished fifth after bleeding during the race. Templetonian was put on Lasix after that race and has done nothing but improve since.
