HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE: William Maple thinks he has a great idea--make Thousand Oaks’ former City Hall a historical landmark (B1). . . . There’s just one problem: No municipal body has the power to do that. So the city is considering options including creation of its own heritage board or a return to county jurisdiction in such matters.
BROTHERLY BRAWN: Topiltzin and Teohua Sanchez are slated to start for the St. Bonaventure Seraphs tonight in the Southern Section playoffs (C8). . . . The brothers, who play tailback and quarterback, were born just 360 days apart. But there’s not much sibling rivalry. . . . “We’ve shared a room since we were little kids, and we have the same group of friends,” Topiltzin said. “We’re practically the same age so it’s not like an older-brother, younger-brother thing.”
FROM T.O. WITH LOVE: James Bond is back (F1), and this time he’s driving a blue BMW Z3 along with his usual Aston Martin. For those who want to eyeball such a car close-up, the Rusnak BMW dealership in the Thousand Oaks Auto Mall has a Z3 on display until Nov. 25. . . . General Manager David K. Pierce says the vehicle in his showroom is arctic silver, rather than the film’s “Bond blue,” but that’s the main exterior difference. . . . The film car features a parachute for soft landings and torpedo launchers in the headlamps, but those won’t be standard options.
A TINGE OF GREEN: Faced with competing pressures from business and environmental groups, Rep. Elton Gallegly usually sides with business. As a result, business folks tend to love him; some environmentalists don’t. . . . But the Simi Valley Republican is being spared from critical radio ads by the Sierra Club because he recently cast a pro-environmental vote--against the wishes of his party. Said the Sierra Club’s Jeffrey Auerbach: “We want to encourage him to keep going.”
