Thousand Oaks May Cap Campaign Gifts

On the heels of Ventura voters’ resounding passage of a campaign reform measure last week, Thousand Oaks City Councilwoman Elois Zeanah is trying to bring the same reform to Thousand Oaks.

Zeanah placed the subject of campaign reform on Tuesday’s council agenda in the hope that the council will agree to add the issue to the March ballot. This is her second attempt to focus on campaign reform.

“I had put this on our agenda in February,” Zeanah said. “Two of the council people said they wanted to wait until after the special election in June. Now it is after.”

In Ventura last week, voters overwhelmingly passed a measure to limit individual campaign contributions to $100.

Zeanah is proposing a similar cap on campaign contributions in Thousand Oaks.

“I’m hoping since they wouldn’t vote for it in February that they will reconsider now,” Zeanah said. “It is certainly a national sentiment.”
