From Associated Press

One of the worst power plays in the NHL suddenly got better, as far as the Winnipeg Jets were concerned.

The Jets, despite their 20th ranking this season with the extra man, scored three power-play goals in the second period to break open a tight defensive game and give them a 6-3 victory Friday night over the New York Rangers at Winnipeg.

Pittsburgh 3, Washington 2--Jaromir Jagr scored with 2:12 left in overtime at Landover, Md., as the Penguins won their first game of the season without Mario Lemieux.

Lemieux does not play on successive nights and sat out the game in order to be fresh for tonight’s home game against Washington.

Dallas 2, San Jose 1--Jim Storm scored his first goal as a Star with 2:09 left at Dallas, and the Stars ended a seven-game winless streak and handed the Sharks their seventh consecutive loss. Storm was recalled from Dallas’ Michigan farm club on Nov. 6.

Colorado 5, Calgary 3--Goaltender Stephane Fiset turned aside 44 shots--21 in the second period--as the Avalanche won at Calgary. The Avalanche is 10-1-1 in its past 12 games.

Detroit 5, Edmonton 4--Steven Yzerman scored his second goal of the game and 10th of the season with 12 seconds left, capping a third-period comeback that gave the Detroit Red Wings a victory at Edmonton.
