Colleges : Campus scene : MISSION VIEJO : Saddleback Paper Earns Another Award
Saddleback College’s weekly student newspaper, The Lariat, won first place for general excellence in the small-college broadsheet category at the fall regional conference of the Journalism Association of Community Colleges.
The Lariat won 28 awards in all, including a first place for editor David Baker for spot editorial writing.
The Inkslinger, a magazine published each spring by the college journalism department, won a third-place award for general excellence.
The Lariat also won a second-place “Best of the Show” award at the Associated Collegiate Press national conference earlier this month in Washington, D.C., and was a finalist for the Pacemaker Award, the equivalent of a Pulitzer Prize for college newspapers, Saddleback representatives said.
