CAMARILLO : Runaway Truck Hits Car, Injures Driver
Police closed three southbound lanes of the Ventura Freeway near Camarillo Friday morning for about one hour after a runaway flatbed truck loaded with firewood struck a car driven by an elderly man.
John Murphy, 77, of Banning was taken to Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks with minor injuries, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said. Murphy’s car was totaled in the 8:30 a.m. accident on the Conejo Grade, just south of the Camarillo Springs off-ramp.
The truck came unhooked from a tow truck being driven by Elmer Tobola, 46, of Camarillo, the spokesman said.
