‘Beatles Anthology’ Busts Sales Chart: The Fab Four made history again last week when the double-disc “Beatles Anthology, Vol. 1” sold a whopping 855,500 copies in the United States during its first week in the stores. That marks the biggest two-disc package sales showing since SoundScan began its computerized monitoring of music industry sales in 1991. The Beatles figures surpassed the first-week sales registered four years ago by Guns N’ Roses’ pair of “Use Your Illusion” albums, which sold 700,000 units each. The anthology came close to unseating Pearl Jam’s “Vs.” album, which sold 950,000 copies its first week in the stores.
