Drum of Toxic Pesticide Closes Freeway Off-Ramp
A Ventura Freeway off-ramp in Camarillo was closed for several hours Thursday night as firefighters removed a 30-gallon drum of toxic pesticide from the roadway, the Ventura County Fire Department reported.
Officials said the drum, full of methyl bromide, fell off a truck and came to rest on the roadway. Because of the toxic nature of the pesticide, officials decided to close the southbound Las Posas off-ramp for several hours and called in a hazardous materials crew to remove it.
No evacuations were necessary and officials said no residences were in danger.
