NHL ROUNDUP : Four Goals by Lemieux in 9-6 Win
Mario Lemieux increased his NHL scoring total to 52 points Thursday night as he scored four goals in leading the Pittsburgh Penguins to a 9-6 victory over the Bruins at Boston.
Markus Naslund assisted on three of the goals and now has 16 assists this season.
Bryan Smolinski and Glen Murray, who were traded to the Penguins from the Bruins during the off-season, each scored two in their first trip back to Boston. Jaromir Jagr scored his 20th goal.
Lemieux has played in 18 games this season and had at least a point in each of those games.
Ted Donato, Ray Bourque and Cam Neely scored power-play goals for the Bruins.
St. Louis 4, Winnipeg 1--Grant Fuhr became the 11th goaltender in NHL history to reach the 300-victory plateau as the Blues scored four goals in the third period at Winnipeg to beat the Jets.
Fuhr was tested only 19 times in reaching the historic victory level as the Blues outshot the Jets, 39-19. Fuhr improved his career record to 300-207-74.
Brett Hull scored two goals and Roman Vopat and Geoff Courtnall scored one apiece for the Blues.
Ed Olczyk scored for Winnipeg.
Philadelphia 3, Toronto 2--Mikael Renberg’s goal with 1:03 remaining at Philadelphia extended the Flyers’ winning streak to seven games. Eric Lindros picked off a bad clearing pass by Toronto’s Benoit Hogue near the blue line and faked a slap shot. Lindros alertly dropped a pass to Renberg, who delivered a slap shot for his 15th goal of the season.
N.Y. Islanders 5, Ottawa 3--Wendel Clark scored two goals as the Islanders beat the Senators before 8,167 at the Civic Centre in Ottawa--the smallest crowd in Senator history.
