A pair of Cal State Long Beach economists have predicted a two-year spurt in the number of jobs in Southern California.
In a report released Thursday, the team forecast 280,000 new jobs in the region by the end of 1997, with Riverside and San Bernardino counties providing the quickest economic growth.
Employers can expect an end to the slump in manufacturing, financial services, insurance and real estate, according to Lisa Grobar and Peter Griffin. Many new jobs are likely in construction, trade, transportation, communications and public utilities, the report said.
It also estimated that personal income rose 4% this year and will continue upward, potentially boosting retail sales 2.7% next year and 3.7% in 1997.
