NEWPORT BEACH : Mayor Earns 2nd Term in Unanimous Council Vote
- Share via
John W. Hedges, a commercial airline pilot and the city’s mayor for the past year, was unanimously reelected to the post by his colleagues this week.
“This is a challenging city to govern in, and it’s been a pleasure to run,” Hedges said before his reelection.
Mayor Pro Tem Janice A. Debay also will serve a second term, the seven-member council unanimously decided.
The mayor’s position, which is typically rotated among council members on a yearly basis, is a ceremonial post and affords its holder no special privileges.
The mayor, however, has a seat on all six city advisory committees.
