SMALL FACES: The soundtrack for the movie “Thin Line Between Love and Hate”--written, starring and directed by Martin Lawrence--will include H. Town performing a remake of the title song (a 1971 hit for the Persuaders) as well as tracks by R. Kelly and Tevin Campbell. An advance single of LBC Crew’s “Beware of My Crew” just went to radio. The album is due Feb. 6 and the movie opens Feb. 9. . . .

Elton John’s lyricist Bernie Taupin is working with his own new band, an acoustic quartet tentatively called the Farmdogs. A debut album is being recorded at Taupin’s Santa Ynez Valley ranch. . . . Jimmie Dale Gilmore’s recent sessions with producer Bones Howe have been scrapped and the singer-songwriter is back in the studio working on his next album with fellow Texan T Bone Burnett now producing. . . .

Latest of unlikely revivals is a new grunge-punk remix of Men Without Hats’ ‘80s hit “The Safety Dance,” with ‘90s guitars and beat added by producer Ralph Sall (who was behind the new upcoming cartoon themes “tribute”). The song was done for the action movie “Biodome,” which also will include tracks by Wax and Dance Hall Crashers, along with such other ‘80s nuggets as “World Destruction” by John Lydon and Afrika Bambaataa and “I Want Candy” by Bow Wow Wow.
