$5,000 Offered to Help Find Pranksters

The city has boosted to $5,000 the reward for information about pranksters who fired a small-caliber pellet gun at trick-or-treaters Halloween night.

In all, 12 Tustin residents were fired on in four separate attacks. The parents of a 1 1/2-year-old girl who was hit in the back of her head by a pellet offered a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the attackers.

The City Council, calling the crime senseless, voted to raise that amount by $4,000.

“It’s so outrageous that anyone would fire a pellet gun at anyone, let alone a defenseless infant,” Councilman Thomas R. Saltarelli said. “As a city, we need to ensure safety and send the message that we won’t put up with that kind of activity by adults or minors.”

Saltarelli said he hopes the additional reward money will prompt someone to come forward.

Police believe between one and five youths were involved in the attacks, which occurred just a few minutes apart Oct. 31. The suspects are believed to have been driving a 1990 or later blue or green Ford Explorer, officials said.

Anyone with information should call Investigator Todd Bullock at (714) 573-3251.
