Authorities were searching for a teen-ager Saturday evening after he allegedly shot a 19-year-old Ventura resident in Cabrillo Village.

Noel Gutierrez was treated at Ventura County Medical Center on Friday for gunshot wounds to his leg and foot and was later released, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Police said Gutierrez was walking near the intersection of Q and Si Se Pueda streets in Cabrillo Village about 6:20 p.m. Friday when the attacker, described as 15 or 16 years old and about 5 feet, 2 inches tall, fired several bullets from a handgun.

Police said Gutierrez was hit in the leg and foot. The attacker then chased Gutierrez between parked cars and shot at him again, police said. After the shooting, police said, the attacker fled on foot toward the Santa Clara river bottom.

The Ventura Police Department’s major crimes unit is investigating the shooting as an attempted murder case.
