Dust a Reminder of Past Mistakes

Monday morning, Nov. 27, 1995. The blowing dust of the Oxnard Plains was reminiscent of the Dust Bowl of the 1930s where poor farming practices clashed with the wind and the wind won.

Have local landholders, who claim to be farmers, become so complacent about their stewardship of the land because developers are waiting anxiously to pave it over? Or is this indicative of an evolutionary gap that has left an entire group of people 60 years behind?

The pessimism of scientists predicting worldwide food shortages in the next decade or two becomes believable when exceptionally productive ag land becomes airborne in our traditional Santa Ana winds.

This event and the wisdom of previous generations, underscores the necessity to grow our own food and not rely on others to feed our families.
