Council OKs $50,000 for Football Stadium Advisor

The City Council on Tuesday approved spending a maximum of $50,000 on a consultant who will scout for possible stadium sites for a new professional football team in Los Angeles.
About five sites have been identified as possible venues, including the Coliseum and the Convention Center, according to City Councilman Mike Hernandez, who is heading the council’s stadium search effort.
The consultants will analyze up to a dozen sites in the report, focusing on such factors as the economic effects on surrounding neighborhoods and transportation and parking availability.
In the last year, the Rams and Raiders fled Los Angeles for St. Louis and Oakland respectively, citing outdated facilities and lack of sufficient revenues in the local operations.
City legislative analysts will hire the consultant before year’s end, Hernandez said, and the report is expected to reach the council in February.
