Los Angeles City Council President John Ferraro won election to a seat on the influential National League of Cities Board of Directors during the organization’s conference in Phoenix last week.

A member of the City Council since 1966, Ferraro has long been active with the league, especially its Transportation and Communications Committee. He was instrumental in the league’s decision to hold its nationwide meeting, the Congress of Cities, in Los Angeles in 1999.

“It’s a great honor to be elected by my peers to a national office,” Ferraro said. “Cities all across our nation face similar problems. . . . Participation in the NLC offers the opportunity to focus on common problems and develop solutions.”
