END OF AN ERA: DONAHUE RESIGNS : FIRST CLASS ON THIS SEATING ASSIGNMENT

Walking onto the charter airplane after UCLA’s Hancock Bowl victory over Illinois on New Year’s Eve 1991, I expected to pass Donahue in the first-class section of the jumbo jet as I walked back to the coach section of the packed aircraft.

But Donahue was nowhere to be found up front.

Tradition dictated that the Bruin seniors sit in first class after the final game of the season, so Donahue and his family were crammed into the coach section with the other players, school officials and boosters.
