PORT HUENEME : Bank Robber With Unusual Note Sought

Share

Authorities are searching for a man who robbed the Bank of America in Port Hueneme Wednesday morning.

FBI agents said a man walked into the bank on Channel Island Boulevard at 11:15 a.m. and handed a teller a note claiming he had a gun and demanding money. No gun was seen, authorities said. The robber then took an undisclosed amount of cash, walked briskly out of the bank and was last seen driving a gray Chrysler minivan, they said.

The robber is described as a clean-shaven Latino male in his mid-20s, 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighing about 150 pounds. He was wearing a dark long-sleeved sweat shirt, baggy jeans, dark sunglasses and a dark baseball cap.

FBI agents do not believe the robber is tied to other local robberies because of the unusual style of his demand note. They said the note contained words and letters that had been cut out of magazines.

“It’s very unique,” FBI Agent Gary Auer said. “I cannot tell you the last time we saw something like that.”

Auer also said a patron entering the bank saw the man walking quickly out of the bank and asked him jokingly if he was moving briskly because he had just robbed the bank. The suspect shrugged and kept going, Auer said.
