A house teetering on the brink of a sinkhole may be saved, city engineers decided Thursday.

Walter and Ramona Yee, who own the home in the wealthy Sea Cliff neighborhood, had expected the city to demolish the home.

“We’re going to try to save it,” city engineer Todd Cockburn said after meeting with the family and city and independent engineers. Crews worked Thursday to finish filling the sinkhole with dirt and gravel.

If the house is ultimately torn down, it will be the second in the Sea Cliff neighborhood to be lost to the sinkhole, which opened Monday after a brick sewer line broke and blasted water on the hillside during a downpour.
