Fire Chief Santa Brings Cheer Home for $75

Share

Santa Claus will be visiting South County homes next week, not in his sleigh but on an old-fashioned fire engine.

As part of a program to raise money for the Fire Explorer Program, residents who make a $75 donation may request that the fire truck--and Santa--drop by.

Fire Explorer is a vocational program offered by Boy Scouts or America and the Orange County Fire Authority. It teaches youngsters 14 to 21 the basic skills of firefighting and “gives kids insight into our jobs,” said Kurt Bidinger, advisor for the program.

The fire truck will make its rounds Thursday through Saturday from 4 to 9 p.m. in San Clemente, Dana Point, San Juan Capistrano and Aliso Niguel.

Part of the money raised will be used to help restore a 1963 fire engine donated to the Explorer program by the Dana Point Historical Society. The truck will be used for training exercises, Bidinger said.
