A Glendale man, who was arrested early Tuesday on suspicion of shooting out car windows with a pellet gun, is known for stuffing racist literature in books and consumer products, according to the Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith.

Allan Eric Carlson, 31, was arrested on suspicion of felony vandalism and remained in Newport Beach Police Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail.

Newport Beach police said the investigation of Carlson is continuing.

Members of the Anti-Defamation League said they are monitoring the case against Carlson, who was arrested in 1993 on suspicion of stamping racist messages on notebooks at a supermarket and earlier this year was ordered by a court not to stuff racist flyers into product packaging.

“He is known to be very anti-government and anti-rich-establishment, so going and railing against a rich white community in Newport Beach may not be without reason from his standpoint,” said Tzivia Schwartz, an ADL lawyer. “We really want to stay on top of this.”

Carlson was arrested at 3:15 a.m. in the Eastbluff area where he is accused of vandalizing more than 30 parked cars, said Sheriff’s Lt. Paul Henisey. He also is suspected of vandalizing 48 other cars in the area on Dec. 10, Henisey said.

Last year, Carlson was arrested on assault charges on suspicion of punching a janitor who police said attempted to stop him from placing racist leaflets in student lockers at a Simi Valley high school.
