NEWPORT BEACH : Veteran Trustee Is New Board President
Jim de Boom, a 12-year veteran of the Newport-Mesa Unified School District’s board, has been elected president for the coming year.
De Boom, 54, succeeds Judy Franco in the largely ceremonial position.
He has held the post twice before, but this year will hold special significance, de Boom said, because the board president signs the district high schools’ diplomas, and his daughter is a senior at Newport Harbor.
“I promised my youngest daughter, Jodi, that I would have my name on her diploma,” de Boom said.
He will also officiate at trustee meetings and work closely with Supt. Mac Bernd to set the school district’s agenda.
