National Gaming to Buy Most U.S. Travelodges: Days after selling its last gambling property, the company bet its future on the booming hotel industry. With its onetime parent HFS Inc. and HFS franchisee Motels of America, National Gaming Corp. announced a $169-million deal to buy most of Forte’s North American Travelodge business. National Gaming plans to change its name to National Lodging Corp. next month. After losing $25 million in one year of investing in gambling projects in states new to the industry, the company decided to cash in what chips it had.
