A production of “The Chocolate Nutcracker” opened this week at the Vision Theatre in Leimert Park and will continue through the weekend.

“The show is an African American version of the original ‘Nutcracker,’ ” said Linda Watts, the project manager of the show. The choreography will incorporate classical ballet, as well as jazz, hip-hop and other modern styles, Watts said. The story takes place in numerous countries such as Brazil, Jamaica and Egypt.

The “Chocolate Nutcracker” features actress and choreographer Debbie Allen as the narrator, Gene Anthony Ray (most noted for his role in the television show, “Fame”) and 75 African American children, Watts said.
