South Bay : EXTENDING HOLIDAY CHEER

Share

In hopes of keeping the Christmas spirit around beyond the holiday season, The Galleria at South Bay in Redondo Beach will participate in a nationwide domestic violence campaign set to begin the day after Christmas.

The first annual Mothers’ March will be held at more than 30 shopping malls nationwide. Instead of returning or exchanging unwanted Christmas gifts, organizers are asking that items be donated to women’s and children’s shelters.

Jessica Meier, 11, of Long Beach came up with the idea for the program when she did a current events project for school after the “Million Man March.” Her mother J. J. Meier, a promotions manager for shopping malls, organized the event on a national level.

Some malls will hold marches while others have planned seminars on domestic violence. Eight shopping centers in Los Angeles will participate in the event.
