Photos From Holden’s Trip

Re “Risque Photos of Holden Trip Raise Questions,” Dec. 18.

As a constituent of the 10th District and a proud Korean American, I am both disgusted and outraged by Councilman Nate Holden’s ignorance and lack of integrity. As an African American, he should know better than to stereotype anyone. Yet he implies that providing strippers at a business party is “typical” Korean behavior. How dare he assume that those kinds of unacceptable activities are a part of our culture. Has he taken the time to know the Korean community? Because if he had, he would never have uttered such absurdities. Not only has he demonstrated a total lack of respect toward women, but now he wants to slander all Koreans.

In order to justify his disgusting actions, he wants the public to think we condone such lechery. Isn’t it time for him to stop the scapegoating? First he blamed the women that he allegedly harassed and now he wants to attribute his libido-driven acts to Korean business etiquette. It is time for the councilman to take responsibility for his immoral behavior.

Holden owes an apology to the Korean community, to the residents of the 10th District and to all of us women who have worked so hard to avoid being labeled as mere sexual objects. Once again, Holden has disappointed all of us.

* I cannot believe that Holden attributes the nude dancing exhibition as a typical evening among Korean politicians and a typical, traditional Korean evening of entertainment.

Holden insults all people of color with his racist smear. Such evil shenanigans may be typical of politicians too long in office, but they are not at all representative of the Korean culture. His transparent excuses serve only to bring attention to an out-of-date old fool, corrupted and too blind to measure his own transgressions against the people.

Nate Holden, you are a scoundrel and a failure to those you once promised to serve. Resign now.

* One of the hardest things to understand about sexual harassment is why it happens. Holden has finally cleared up the confusion--women, whether they are dancing on a table or being pressed into service for a midnight back rub, are merely perks of the position!

Is Holden’s brand of work ethics and “professional” representation of the city something we can continue to afford?
