UCLA Assistants Toledo, Field to Interview for Donahue Job

UCLA Athletic Director Peter Dalis will interview Bruin offensive coordinator Bob Toledo and defensive coordinator Bob Field on Wednesday for the head coaching job left vacant by the resignation of Terry Donahue.

Toledo, a former head coach at the University of the Pacific and UC Riverside, is thought to have the better chance of the two to get the job.

But both must be rated below the other three candidates, Northwestern Coach Gary Barnett, Kansas State Coach Bill Snyder and Denver Bronco defensive coordinator Greg Robinson.

Barnett is negotiating a long-term deal with Northwestern, but, if complications arise, he might find himself back in the Bruin picture.

“I thought Terry would be here for the rest of his life,” Toledo said. “But now, I’d love to have the job.

“I didn’t want a job where I would have no chance to compete. I’ve been there. Like with Pacific, which just dropped football. I’d like to be in a position to have at least as many bullets as the next guy.”
