NBA ROUNDUP : Jordan Gets 30 as Bulls Win 13th in a Row

Michael Jordan scored 30 points and put on a one-man show in the second quarter as the Chicago Bulls defeated the Utah Jazz, 100-86, Saturday night for their 13th consecutive victory.

Scottie Pippen added 28 points for the Bulls, who can equal their longest winning streak ever Tuesday at Indiana.

Dennis Rodman grabbed 12 rebounds and Jordan had eight assists, seven rebounds and three steals as Chicago improved to an NBA-best 23-2 overall and 13-0 at home.

Karl Malone scored 22 points for Utah, which suffered its most decisive loss this season.

Utah led, 34-32, midway through the second quarter when Jordan took over, scoring 12 points on six-for-seven shooting as the Bulls used an 18-8 spurt to go ahead, 50-42, at halftime.

Chicago led, 63-57, with four minutes left in the third quarter when Pippen and Steve Kerr ignited a 15-3 run that turned the game into a rout.

San Antonio 110, Houston 95--Sean Elliott had 26 points and Avery Johnson a season-high 25 as the Spurs rolled at San Antonio for their fifth consecutive victory.

Hakeem Olajuwon had 27 points and 13 rebounds, but his matchup with David Robinson, who finished with 18 points and 16 rebounds, wasn’t as compelling as the battle between the two little guards, Johnson and Sam Cassell, who came off the bench to score a career-high 33 points.

New Jersey 98, Philadelphia 85--Shawn Bradley had seven blocked shots and 13 points on six-of-six shooting in his return to Philadelphia as a member of the Nets.

Bradley, playing against his former team for the first time since being traded on Nov. 30, made his first start for the Nets and played 21 minutes.

P.J. Brown scored 18 points for New Jersey. Vernon Maxwell scored 28 points to lead Philadelphia.

Cleveland 97, Indiana 96--Terrell Brandon dribbled the length of the floor and made a short jumper at the buzzer as the Cavaliers won at Cleveland.

The Cavaliers scored the last six points of the game in winning for the fifth time in their last six games.

Chris Mills scored a career-high 27 points and Brandon had 21 points and 11 assists for Cleveland. Indiana was led by Mark Jackson with 21 points.

New York 103, Toronto 91--Patrick Ewing scored 40 points on 15-of-19 shooting as the Knicks won at New York.

Tracy Murray’s three-point basket with 7:47 left cut the Knicks’ lead to 84-82. But New York outscored the Raptors, 19-7, over the next six minutes to win for the seventh time in eight games.

Rookie point guard Damon Stoudamire led the Raptors with 25 points and Willie Anderson added 20.

Orlando 94, Detroit 79--Anfernee Hardaway scored 16 of his 22 points in the third quarter to lead the Magic at Auburn Hills, Mich.

Orlando won its third in a row, giving up only 31 points in the second half.

The Magic led, 49-48, at the half, but in the third quarter Hardaway had five points in a 7-2 run to start the period and the Magic pulled away.

Nick Anderson also had 22 points for the Magic, and Shaquille O’Neal added 18.

Charlotte 87, Miami 75--Charlotte struggled to put away the Heat before reserve guards Greg Sutton and Dell Curry fueled an 11-0 fourth-quarter run that sent the Hornets to victory at Charlotte, N.C.

Sutton had a three-point basket, two assists and a steal in the run, and Curry made a pair of jumpers in the run, which gave Charlotte a 17-point edge with 5:08 left.

Larry Johnson had 22 points for the Hornets.

Milwaukee 115, Atlanta 111--Glenn Robinson scored 30 points and Sherman Douglas 22 as the Bucks won at Milwaukee.

The Bucks scored the first nine points of the fourth quarter, four by Terry Cummings, to pull ahead, 91-80, with 9:42 to play. The Hawks were led by Ken Norman with 23 points and Steve Smith with 22.

Minnesota 111, Dallas 98--The Timberwolves ended a five-game losing streak and gave Flip Saunders his first victory as head coach with the victory at Minneapolis.

Isaiah Rider scored 21 of his game-high 26 points in the second half and Tom Gugliotta added 20 points for the Timberwolves, who are 1-3 with Saunders at the helm.

George McCloud and Jim Jackson scored 22 points apiece for the Mavericks, who failed for the fifth time to give coach Dick Motta his 900th career victory.

Seattle 118, Washington 100--Gary Payton had 27 points and 11 assists and Shawn Kemp added 18 points and 15 rebounds to lead the SuperSonics at Seattle.

Juwan Howard scored 21 points and Gheorghe Muresan had 20 to lead the Bullets, who lost their third consecutive game, all on the road.
