Cubans Aren’t Toasting Che Beer
The Cuban government is pressing a British businessman who signed a deal to market Cuban beer in Europe to stop exploiting the name of its revolutionary hero Che Guevara.
Che beer has become popular in some of London’s trendiest bars since its debut earlier this year.
The beer’s motto--”Banned in the USA. It Must Be Good”--exploits the U.S. embargo of Cuba as a marketing tool. In fact, Che beer is not only banned in the U.S., it isn’t going over well in Havana. The beer isn’t brewed anywhere near there, but in Hertford, in the south of England. Its only Cuban content? Citrus fruit.
