Dick Clark Joins 2 Cable Ventures in Latin America
Dick Clark International Cable Ventures Ltd., a Burbank-based cable television partnership, said that over the next two years it will build and manage two cable services in the Dominican Republic and Mexico.
The company is a private venture between Tehachapi cable entrepreneur Dick Lubic and Dick Clark, chairman of the board of Dick Clark Productions Inc. of Burbank. It has secured with Arie Television a concessions agreement to build a $60-million cable television fiber-optic network for Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic. Lubic said 250 miles of the system will be complete by summer.
The company said the Dominican Republic government also has given it an exclusive wireless license covering the rest of the country.
In Mexico, the company has formed a partnership with Mexican businessman Carlos Bustamante to build a $90-million fiber-optic network in Tijuana and Mexicali according to the terms of a concession granted by the Mexican government.
Dean Witter and Gerard, Klauer & Mattison of New York are arranging financing for both projects, Lubic said.
