COSTA MESA : Council to Vote on Placing Term Limits on Ballot
The City Council will vote Tuesday on whether to put the issue of term limits for members on the ballot next year.
If the council adopts the measure, voters will be asked in November to endorse the concept of term limits. If there is support for the idea, details such as the number of years a council member could serve would be worked out later.
Councilwoman Sandra L. Genis said that Councilman Gary Monahan has been the major proponent of term limits.
“I’m not exactly sure why he wants them,” she said. “I sort of believe that when it comes to elected officials . . . if you don’t like them, you vote them out. But term limits is a popular thing these days.”
