Frank J. Subic, a longtime Santa Paula resident and an avid reader, died Saturday at his home after a long battle with emphysema. He was 65.

A native of Denver, Subic grew up in Los Angeles County and moved to Santa Paula in 1961 in search of a “peaceful place to live,” said his son Neal Keven Subic of Ventura.

He served in the Navy during the Korean War and later worked at Fluid Kinetics Corp. in Ventura, where he drew mechanical parts for oil refineries, his son said.
