Pier Scheduled to Be Reopened Today
The Ventura Pier, closed New Year’s Eve because of high surf and winds, is scheduled to reopen today, city officials said Tuesday.
Ventura city parks officials, who inspected the wooden structure following high surf, closed the pier at noon Sunday when they heard thumping and creaking underneath, said Bill Byerts, parks manager.
“We inspected it [Tuesday] and we don’t have any concerns about the integrity of the structure so it will reopen about 7 a.m. Wednesday,” Byerts said. “But we will continue to monitor the tidal and storm conditions, so we may have to close it again in the future if necessary.”
